(yes I know there’s multiple platforms in the picture, but the picture is missing the Fords and Mercurys built off of those two platforms, too...)

Yeah, the Citation and Corsair used the bigger Mercury chassis, Ranger, Pacer, and all the wagons used the shorter Ford chassis.

But, that’s how American cars were in that era. “Full-size” was called “standard size”, and every automaker offered different models that were all the same basic body and chassis, but with different engines and different trim - closer to modern trim levels than modern model lines.

If you wanted something other than full-size, that’s when you moved to unique sheet metal. And Rambler was the only brand with a full model range (compact, midsize, and full-size) in 1958, plus the subcompact Metropolitan in the same showroom.
